"In the whole of my career I have seen nothing that offers the opportunity for such clear improvements as the MOVE Programme"
Liz Gray, Paediatric Physiotherapy Team Leader, Moray
"When he was born doctors told Edward’s parents would never be able to even lift his head. Through MOVE he started to sit, stand and eventually walk when he was 7."
"The sharing of everybody’s skills and having everyone working towards the same goals produces a more collaborative approach for the child"
Lynne Brownrigg, Head Teacher, Cumbria
About Us
The MOVE Partnership is a small, UK based charity working with Local Authorities, schools and organisations to improve the well being of children and adults who have physical disabilities and/or complex needs.
For more than 110,000 severely disabled children across the UK, a million across Europe and the Middle East and many more adults, the most basic of actions – giving a hug, going to the toilet or raising their head to look out of the window – are a huge challenge. However, our experience has shown that such tasks need not be insurmountable, many of these children and adults just need the opportunity to MOVE.
The unique MOVE Programme works with the whole team around the child or adult – including parents, teachers, learning assistants, therapists and carers - providing a consistent and fully integrated approach, whilst teaching new skills to help improve independent mobility.
This goal-orientated programme focuses on targets tailored to the individual’s needs, set by the individuals themselves and their families. This ensures that they are motivated to learn whilst also progressing towards independent movement, personal independence and dignity.
The benefits for those using the MOVE Programme and their families are huge, and may include gains in general health and social inclusion, which, in turn, develops enhanced cognition, communication skills and family life.
It is our aim to provide the MOVE Programme to all those who may benefit. To help us achieve this we have the determined support of our large network of trained volunteers, the expertise of our Board of Trustees and Professional Advisory Council, our dedicated staff and the continuous support of our funders.
