MOVE Team
The MOVE team is made up of six members of staff based in the UK and a group of volunteer Consultants and Ambassadors.
Christine Shaw MCSP, MOVE Consultant
Christine trained as a physiotherapist in Edinburgh and continues to live there. She has worked in paediatrics for most of her career in hospital clinics, schools and in community paediatrics. For the 15 years prior to taking up her original post of Development Manager for MOVE Scotland in 2000, she worked for Capability Scotland as superintendent physiotherapist in a school for children with physical disabilities and complex needs. Until April 2012 she held the title of Director of Professional Development for MOVE when she retired from a full-time role. From April Christine continues to support the expansion of MOVE throughout Scotland the UK and Europe in a consultancy role.
Daniel Charcharos, Information and Communication
Daniel joined the MOVE Team as a Services Assistant in July 2010 to cover a maternity period. This is Daniel’s first role within the charity sector following seven years in communications. The role has developed into managing Informationa and Communication for the charity. He is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the MOVE Programme including relations with press, event organisation and volunteer support.
Di Rickard, Director of Development and Training
Di started at MOVE in January 2010 following thirty-four years as a paediatric physiotherapist. She has specialised in working with children with disabilities within the NHS and voluntary sectors in varied school and community settings throughout London and the South East, culminating in her last position as clinical lead for paediatric physiotherapy in West Kent. Di is responsible for raising the profile of the MOVE Programme and the training and support of the team around the child/adult.
Kyra Howell, Administration and Finance
Kyra joined MOVE from a career in teaching and is a graduate of University College London, Kings College London and Kingston University. Kyra is responsible for the day to day running of the MOVE Office and the co-ordination of MOVE’s Practitioner training courses and research studies along with the organisation of high profile events.
Nigel Carter, Chief Executive
Nigel joined MOVE Europe in 2007 with a background of thirty-two years working in the education field: twenty eight years with children and young people who have a wide range of special educational needs: the last ten as head teacher of two special schools. He has specialised in working with young people who have physical disabilities and profound and multiple learning difficulties. Nigel has been involved in developing initiatives for children with special needs at regional and national levels and he is trained as an Ofsted Inspector for primary and special schools.
Nigel is responsible for MOVE's overall strategic direction. In addition to this he provides advice and training on the MOVE Programme and for the development of MOVE Local Authority Agreements in order to develop the MOVE Programme in the most cost effective and sustainable manner.
Peter Holland, Director of International Development
Formally of Bernardos, Mencap and Chief Executive for Action for Blind People. Peter currently holds directorships with the MOVE International Foundation, California, The Snowdon Award Scheme, The Metropolitan Society for the Blind and Diverse Solutions Limited. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts. Peter retired from MOVE's Chief Executive position and from April 2012 took up the role of Director of International Development on a part-time basis.
Consultants and Ambassadors
In addition to these staff members the MOVE Team is also made up of a group of sixteen volunteer MOVE Consultants who are based across Europe and are available to provide support to MOVE Practitioners and Trainers locally when developing the use of the MOVE Programme within their area. A number of Young Person, Parent and Professional Ambassadors are also available as members of the MOVE Team to help raise awareness of the MOVE Programme and to provide support to new parents and professionals interested in the MOVE Programme.
