MOVE Trainers
What do MOVE Trainers do?
MOVE Trainers are professionals and parents/carers of individuals, who have undertaken MOVE Practitioner training so that they can teach others how to deliver the MOVE Programme by sharing their knowledge and helping to establish this programme in their schools and centres.
Trainers are vital for the effective use and dissemination of the MOVE Programme. They are essential to our work of promoting the MOVE Programme, and their work training others in the MOVE Programme within their own school/centre (at no extra cost to that organisation) which also ensures the sustainability of the MOVE Programme.
Who can become a MOVE Trainer?
Anyone with at least one year's experience as a MOVE Practitioner is eligible to apply to become a MOVE Trainer. The training course takes place over five days.
What does a MOVE Trainer’s Course involve?
The five-day course covers all areas of the MOVE Programme in addition to a certain amount of moving and handling training and the skill required to be a trainer. Materials will be provided in the form of a Trainer’s box, which will contain all the materials necessary to run MOVE Practitioner courses.
Benefits of undertaking MOVE Trainer Training:
- Being able to train all your school/centre staff to become MOVE Practitioners at no additional cost, ensuring that the MOVE Programme remains sustainable in your organisation without extra training charges.
- Further in depth knowledge to be able to support your colleagues when needed.
- Regular updates and information from MOVE Europe.
- A support network composed of MOVE Development Officers, MOVE Consultants and the MOVE Europe’s Central Office staff.

Expectations of MOVE Trainers assessed?
- All MOVE Trainers must complete an annual MOVE Trainer evaluation form.
- Attendance at a MOVE Trainers Conference is expected once every three years. (There is no charge to attend the conference, however the charity is unable to cover travel expenses)
- Trainers must provide MOVE with attendance forms and evaluations of MOVE Practitioner Training.
Trainer courses and manual handling
The MOVE Programme and moving and handling regulations complement each other perfectly. Whilst the MOVE Programme supports the child to develop and improve their mobility skills, appropriate moving and handling approaches are necessary to ensure that all procedures are done as safely and appropriately as possible. For this reason, in 2002, MOVE began a partnership with Centaur Training Limited ensuring that MOVE materials and training were adapted to comply with current legislation.
