MOVE Charter

Our charter calls for all children and young people with complex disabilities or health needs to be given the opportunity to benefit from MOVE.

1     MOVE for Government

·   Government should be aware of and support MOVE’s role in helping to deliver their strategies for improving the life chances of disabled children and young people and delivering fit-for-purpose services that improve outcomes for disabled children and young people (so that they are healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and accomplish economic well-being).

2    MOVE for Families, Children and Young People

·   Every child, young person and family who could benefit from the MOVE Programme has the right to be made aware of and be able to access MOVE if they choose to do so.

·   A MOVE assessment should precede the individual education plan for every child with complex disabilities or health needs.

3    MOVE for Teachers and Therapists

·   Teachers, therapists and other professionals working with disabled children and young people should have access to appropriate training in delivering the MOVE Programme as required.

·   Local and Regional Children’s Workforce Strategies should address the specific training needs of staff wishing to work with children who have complex disabilities or health needs through the delivery of the MOVE Programme.

·   Every school, college and day service:

o  should be made aware of the potential of the MOVE Programme

o  should access appropriate training in order to ensure that staff have the necessary competences to deliver the MOVE Programme.

4    MOVE for Local Authorities

·   MOVE should be developed collaboratively through strategic partnerships and commissioning arrangements between health, education and social services (for example through Children’s Trusts).

·   MOVE training should be standard in schools, colleges and day services that support children and young adults with complex disabilities or health needs.

5    MOVE for Funders

·   Individuals, corporations and grant institutions should recognise the potential of MOVE and help to support MOVE’s development and expansion across the UK as a way of improving the lives of some of the most disadvantaged and socially excluded children and young people in the country

6        MOVE for Ambassadors

·   Ambassadors should help to raise the profile of MOVE, which is crucial to the success of the Programme, across the whole of the UK.
