The history of the MOVE ProgrammeDian eating her lunch

The MOVE programme was developed after research in Bakersfield, California (1986) found that severely disabled children were leaving school with fewer skills than when they began.

The teachers started to consider the amount of movement opportunities that these children had throughout the day and realised that they were extremely limited. Subsequently, they carried out a pilot study from which the MOVE programme was established.

MOVE-International are now carrying on their work in the USA, expanding to Japan, the Middle East and New Zealand. For more information, please see Where is MOVE? The MOVE programme around the world

MOVE Europe has now been in the UK and the rest of Europe for the last seven years. Please go to Our Achievements to find out more about the work that we have been carrying out.
