MOVE for families
Helping to achieve the goals of
children and families through MOVE is one of our key goals and we will do
all we can to support you.
Please find a list of common questions below but
if there is anything that we’ve missed out, please do not hesitate to email
us at
move@move-europe.org.uk or call our dedicated helpline at 020 7407 5344.
How can I find
out more about the MOVE Programme?
First we suggest that you look
around this website, particularly the
Information
Resources section. This contains case studies of children on the
MOVE; Ofsted comments; How MOVE fits with current UK legislation; academic
research on the Programme as well as much more.
Our bi-annual newsletter will
keep you up-to-date with all our news and activities.

Can
I talk to another family who are using the MOVE Programme?
We can arrange for one of our
Parent Ambassadors to contact you to discuss their feelings and experience
of starting on MOVE.
"As a parent of a child
with profound physical and learning disabilities, I am frustrated at the
lack of resources for my son and other children such as him... The MOVE
Programme addresses many of my concerns, regarding my child's future
development. With the collaborative approach the Programme has, with
everyone considered a key partner, I see it becoming a benchmark for other
organisations to set their standards by." Bobby McBride, parent in
Scotland.
All of our Parent Ambassadors
are volunteers with children currently on the Programme in the UK,
please read the testimony of
one parent, Liz Roberts from Inverness. Please
contact us if you would like to find
out more about speaking to an Ambassador.

Can I visit a school
to see MOVE in Practice?
Our
Regional Centres of Excellence
are always happy to receive guests to their school. These schools
demonstrate best practice, in both the interpretation of the theory of MOVE
and its practical application, through helping children and young people
with disabilities to learn the skills to enable them to become more
independent. Please feel free to contact them directly to arrange a visit.

How can I start my
child on the MOVE Programme?
If your child’s school or centre
is not already practising MOVE, then the first step is to get them on board.
The team approach is a key aspect of MOVE and so we recommend that your
child’s teachers, care assistants and therapists are all involved to ensure
best practice.
Arranging a meeting to discuss
using MOVE within the centre can be a helpful way to start this process. You
may find that the positive
feedback from Ofsted and
UK Legislation and MOVE
are useful documents for staff to look over. If you need any
assistance planning the meeting, or if you would like us to approach the
school or centre directly, please do not hesitate to
contact us .
When your school are
enthusiastic about MOVE and ready to get started, then it is time to start
training! MOVE runs two-day long courses which teach people how to start up
and practice the MOVE Programme including setting goals, assessing ability,
teaching skills, how to use equipment and maintaining new expertise. Upon
successfully completing the course, all participants become fully qualified
MOVE Practitioners with the skills to set up the Programme in their home,
school or centre.
There are
currently two modes of training offered
-
In-house training for the whole
centre. As a charity, we very occasionally receive funding to
offer free places to parents / guardians. Please contact us for
information.
-
Open MOVE Practitioner training
courses, which run throughout the year. Please note that we
recommend that all people who work and care for children on the MOVE
Programme attend the course to ensure best practice.
As a MOVE Practitioner, you will
join our European-wide community and will have access to ongoing support and
development.
