MOVE Training Courses

There are two levels of training within the MOVE framework. 

• Free Practitioner training places for Hertfordshire and Hampshire

• Practitioner level, available through

  • Open courses:  

  • 23rd -24th January 2008, London

  • 6th-7th May 2008, Birmingham

  • 7th-8th October 2008, London

  • In-house training for schools and centres

  • European Practitioner training dates

• Trainer level: Anyone wishing to become a MOVE Trainer will have to pass the Practitioner level first.

  •   2nd - 6th June 2008, London

  • 10th-14th November 2008, Edinburgh

The MOVE Practitioner Course is a two-day training course for teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, learning assistants, therapy assistants, parents or anyone who wishes to put MOVE into practice in their school, day centre, clinic or at home. After successfully completing the course, all participants become certified MOVE Practitioners.

The course involves learning how to assess and set goals for your child, teaching movement skills including how to help your child move in different environments, as well as the use of specialist equipment in daily life. The course has a practical focus with presentations, case studies, group work as well as ongoing discussion of the issues raised.

Open Practitioner training courses in 2008 are being held at:

• 23rd-24th January 2008, London, MOVE Europe Head Office (Unit C, 15 Bell Yard Mews, Bermondsey Street, London, SE1 3TY)

• 6th-7th May 2008, Birmingham, The Birmingham & Midland Institute (Margaret Street, Birmingham B3 3BS)

• 7th-8th October 2008, London, the Disabled Living Foundation (380-384 Harrow Road, London, W9 2HU)

This type of practitioner training costs £250 per place (This includes training materials (excluding MOVE Manual) and ongoing support for trained practitioners).

Funding from The Childwick Trust and Friends of MOVE Hampshire has allowed us to provide free training places for both Hampshire and Hertfordshire. This can be arranged at any time throughout the year at the school or centre's convenience. A MOVE Trainer will come directly to the centre and train up to 25 staff. This package costs £2,300 (including all training materials and the MOVE manual which is a requirement for each establishment using the MOVE Programme).

We now have a new MOVE Trainer courses, which has been put together in conjunction with Centaur Training Ltd. 

Both courses are based on UK policy; encompassing health, education and social services requirements, whilst also covering those vital manual handling techniques that are needed to safely carry out the MOVE Programme and train new staff up to Practitioner level.  The following courses are available:

Five-day MOVE Trainer course is for people who have been working as Practitioners for some time and who would like to take their training to the next level.  MOVE Trainers will be able to train new Practitioners within their school, unit, local authority or even further afield.
